Proposed Cell Tower Near Foothill Elementary

Dear Sierra Unified Families,
We've heard from a number of you about a proposed cell tower that Fresno County is considering near
Foothill Elementary. We are aware of the proposal and we wanted to share what we know so far.
What's being proposed:
A private company (Assurance Development) has applied for a permit to build an 80-foot wireless
communications tower on Auberry Road, near Foothill Elementary and the District office. The
application is Unclassified Conditional Use Permit No. 3849 / Initial Study No. 8884.
Where things stand:
The Fresno County Planning Commission is scheduled to hold a public hearing on this application on
September 17, 2026, at 8:45 a.m. (Room 301, Hall of Records, 2281 Tulare Street, Fresno). The public
comment period on the application closes September 16, 2026.
What the District is doing:
We are looking into this closely, reviewing the County's environmental study, and the Board of Trustees
will consider on Monday, September 14, what questions and concerns we want to raise with the
Planning Commission on behalf of our school community. We'll share more as that work develops.
How you can share your own thoughts:
If you'd like to submit your own comments to the County, you can email Arianna Brown, the County
planner handling this application, at arbrown@fresnocountyca.gov , or attend the September 17 hearing
in person. If you wish to submit public comments, they must be received by September 16.
We know this matters to many of you, and we appreciate you bringing it to our attention. We'll keep
you updated as we learn more.
Kindly,
Dr. Lori Grace,
Superintendent, Sierra Unified School District
